New Pictures

These are from last weekend, but I’m slow to update the blog these days.

This first one is the view when I clean Chance’s front left hoof. For some reason, he thinks he needs to give me a big hug when I do that one.

Look how long his mane is getting! You can tell by the hairbrush in his mouth that he takes very good care of his mane and tail.

And here’s his beautiful tail.

He’s at his cutest when he’s yawning.

So is Natty

We have been practicing standing tied in this spot, and she’s doing very well. As you can see, when I turned her loose she went right back to this spot and stood and waited for me. Such a good girl!

Tacked Up

Here’s the latest in the Chancey training process… I swear this horse was born trained. Today I saddled and bridled him, just for fun. As you can see, he thought all this was perfectly acceptable. I let him look over everything on the fence first (taste test too) and then put it all on him. I did have to take the bridle off and re-adjust it, and he pawed me! I guess he was enjoying himself and wasn’t ready to be done.  Silly fellow. At one point, he walked away and went over to Natty to nurse – not sure if he was trying to get some comfort because of the stressful situation or just testing to make sure he could still nurse with a bit in his mouth. New Video

I’ve noticed lately that I can start the horses grooming each other, so today I kept my camera ready and started scratching Natty’s belly – she was very happy and started scratching Chance’s back in return, and then he started scratching her withers. It’s nice to be part of the little herd so I can get in on the scratching too (and even nicer that Natty knows better than to try scratching my back!). Here’s the video:
